Players Will Be Able to Change Their Sim's Sexual Orientation In 'The Sims 4'

On July 28, the release of the 12th update pack for The Sims 4 is expected, and it will be marked by the fact that now any player, even without any DLC, will be able to change the sexual orientation of Sims. This is done as part of the developers' policy to support the LGBT community within the gaming space. SimGuruJessica, the lead designer at The Sims 4, emphasized that the company is committed to ensuring that people of all races and sexual preferences can feel comfortable in their game.

The new update will add attractiveness settings to each Sim, where the player will be able to determine the preferences of their character. Now you can decide on your own whether your Sim is attracted to men or women, or maybe no one at all, determine what gender of characters your Sim would like to have sex with, and also whether the Sim’s sexual preferences can change during the game. These settings can be edited at any time during the game. Or you can have a Sim who doesn't want to have sex with other Sims but wants a romantic connection, and vice versa, a Sim who is only interested in sex. And, of course, the option of casual sex is now available, which is not necessarily associated with love and the long history of relationships preceding it.

The upcoming update is just a small step towards fully implementing such mechanics. A thorough study of such an important topic is necessary. For example, although the player can change the pronoun to refer to their Sim, there are no full-fledged mechanics for non-binary Sims yet. The model of same-sex relationships has been around since the very first Sims game, which was released back in 1999. However, the new settings will significantly expand the construction of history for non-traditional relationships.
